The SSSS contributes expertise to normative and legislative processes and draws attention to their repercussions on the soil.

The SSSS is the only national society that brings together people and institutions active in the area of pedology and that has access to the latest fundamental scientific knowledge as well as to experience in implementation and practical applications. Since its foundation, the SSSS is committed to anchoring soil protection in the legislation, and it was decisively involved in the drawing up of the article on soil protection in the Environmental Protection Act.

The SSSS, as a society of the Swiss Academy of Sciences scnat, is therefore in accordance with the performance agreement drawn up between the scnat and the Federal Department of Home Affairs FDHA. This performance agreement defines scientific consultancy in the form of advisory opinions as one of the key tasks.
