THE SSSS IS EMBEDDED IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL STRUCTURES AND ENCOURAGES COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SPECIALISTS.
The Swiss Soil Science Society SSSS was founded in 1975. Hence a structure that aims to promote the exchange of pedological knowledge was established. On the day of the foundation meeting, 27 members registered. These first members mainly represented the pedology research institutions. A few representatives of the authorities and the private sector were also present.
According to the society’s by-laws, the SSSS’s goal is to
consolidate and spread pedological knowledge
promote contacts and ties between people and institutions with an interest in pedology
The SSSS is a member of the following umbrella organizations:
Swiss Academy of Sciences
International Union of Soil Sciences
European Confederation for soil Science Societies
On selected themes, the SSSS collaborates with other actors such as Praktischer Umweltschutz Schweiz PUSCH or WWF.
Steering Committee
Every two years, the members of the committee are elected during the general assembly. The president is elected for one legislative period. The next election will be held during the 2012 general assembly.
